No matter how you feel about paving the Reformatory Trail (come vote at Town Meeting on November 14), join us for an exploration of many of the side trails branching off of the railroad bed. We will walk out and back from the parking lot on Railroad Avenue. We may not get as far as the crossing of Rt. 62, but will go as far as time and inclinations permit.

The Umbrella Arts Center is honored to host an afternoon of Panel Discussion, Slides, and Conversation with Isezaki Koichiro, Jeff Shapiro and Tim Rowan about their work and careers. We will be examining the intersections of these artists’ work and the tradition of Bizen pottery through their friendships, collaborations, and varied apprenticeships. The panel discussion will be moderated by Judith Schwartz, writer, curator and Professor Emeritus of Art History at NYU. This discussion will culminate with a visit to Lucy Lacoste Gallery for the concurrent Bizen Revisited show (on view November 5 – December 3, 2022). A Peruvian Sojourn MCC faculty members Carmen Rodríguez-Peralta, pianist, and Orlando Cela, flutist, will perform a lecture recital devoted to Peruvian works inspired by Indigenous melodies, rhythms, and instruments. Historical and cultural background information will be presented. The annual programming of the Bedford Center for the Arts Photo Group now includes one evening devoted to showcasing the work of different BCA members. On Tuesday, November 8 at 7 pm we have the good fortune to hear from several of the very talented member photographers. Presenting via Zoom will be Bill Davison, Mike Milicia, and Deb Lannon. Bill Davison divides his time between Long Now Boston and his studio at Western Avenue Studios in Lowell where he pursues photography and digital printmaking. Arrangements to leave the boat in Nuuk until next year fell apart, and they ended up sailing the boat back to Lewisporte, Newfoundland. A year ago, Tim helped sail Felicity from Boothbay Harbor, Maine, up to Newfoundland, in preparation for this Greenland voyage. This show, juried by Jessica Straus, examines our relationships with familiar, unfamiliar and defamiliarized objects. Sometimes we find things we never knew we lost. They have been hidden away in our attics or our drawers. Other things we discover in the dailiness of our lives. We find meaning and even healing in found objects and pieces from the past. Meanings are created somewhere between claiming and severing relationships with objects, between reviving and recasting their history. The annual Bedford Turkey Trot run and walk will take place on Thanksgiving morning. All money beyond expenses will go directly to the Bedford Food Pantry. The food pantry provides groceries and hot meals to families in need in Bedford and surrounding communities, and the Turkey Trot supplies a substantial portion of their annual budget.
