Knocked out of Minute Madness, but Fun and Games Continue with Library Bookmark Contest

March 29, 2024

Bedford bibliophiles teamed up for nearly half a million recorded reading minutes (447,770 minutes, to be exact) in March as part of the Minute Madness friendly reading competition between 22 Massachusetts libraries. But it wasn’t enough.

The Bedford team was knocked out in the semifinals by a slight margin this week by the Lunenburg Public Library team.

Noreen O’Gara, Assistant Director of the Bedford Free Public Library, thanked “everyone who joined in – it was a great run.”

O’Gara encourages everyone to play again next year, “Maybe that will be our winning year!”

In the meantime, the Bedford Free Public Library is holding a bookmark design contest in April in preparation for the 2024 Summer Reading program.

The Summer Reading theme this year is “Mystery” with a slogan for each age group as follows:

  • Kids ~ Get a Clue
  • Teen ~ Crack the Case
  • Adults ~ Unravel the Mystery

To enter the contest, download the form here or pick one up at the library. Design the bookmark on the provided template and drop it off in the Children’s Room at the library or submit it online using this form. Stop by the library with any questions.

Submissions will be displayed at the library throughout May ramping up to the start of Summer Reading.

Library staff will choose the winning designs and announce the results in mid-May. The winning designs will be printed and handed out as the official bookmarks of the Bedford Free Public Library 2024 Summer Reading program.

For more fun, all creatives are invited to attend the Bookmark Making Crafternoon from 2:30 to 4 p.m. on Wednesday, April 17 (during school vacation) in the first-floor meeting room. You can make a bookmark for the contest and/or one to take home. Want more fun? In addition to the books, movies, music, library of things, and museum passes, the library offers an array of free activities and events, both virtual and in person.
