What’s Bedford Thinking: Snow – Do you Miss It?

February 9, 2024

It’s Friday, Feb. 9 and there is barely any snow on the ground. This Saturday, it’s supposed to be 60 degrees. I know, I know, don’t jinx it. There is a lot of the winter season left and what’s coming is a mystery. According to some rodent in Pennsylvania, we are supposed to have an early spring. But Punxsutawney Phil is wrong more times than he is right. If he is wrong this year, that means six more weeks of winter. Six weeks from Ground Hog Day on Feb. 2 is an early spring. Sorry, I digress.

Getting back to the snow issue, our climate has changed. Snowstorms were the norm not that many years ago. Did you ever hear about the blizzard we had in ‘78? More recently, we had some epic snowy winters. The last few years have seemed unusually snowless. We are not lacking precipitation, the water tables should be fine. However, it now seems more likely to fall as rain

The question is, ignoring the bigger picture of climate change, do you miss the snow?
