February 27, 2024

The Bedford High School girls’ and boys’ swimming and dive teams sent six swimmers to the State competition last week. Head coach Sheila Page said that the team “had great success at States…. They should be proud!”

The MIAA Division 2 State Swimming and Diving Championship meet was held on Feb. 17 and 18 at the Zesiger Sports Center at MIT in Cambridge.

Sophomore Taelor Nichols competed in the girls’ diving competition. “The competition was tight with a lot of talent,” said Page. Nichols “dove really well” and earned fifth place with a score of 392.

Page said “Taelor has two more years of high school diving. I am looking forward to seeing what she does next year.”

Junior Aniq Syed placed seventh in the boys’ 100-yard butterfly with a time of 54.36 seconds. Syed “dropped an amazing one second below his fastest time,” according to Page.

In the relay competitions, the boys’ 200-yard freestyle relay team made up of Shae Arsenault, Ryley Graham, Ben Sedran, and Syed placed 14th with a time of 1:36.5.  Greg Sedran (backstroke), Ben Sedran (breaststroke), Syed (butterfly), and Arsenault (freestyle) competed in the 200-yard medley relay. The medley team earned 19th place.

Page said, “It was an exciting event seeing all the hard work pay off. They were competing against teams that have pools in their communities and some cases, even on the high school campus. These kids practiced earnestly and made every second of practice time count and it really paid off!”
