December 1, 2023

A memorial service for Mary Mady, 79, formerly of Bedford, will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, Dec. 9 at the Good Shepherd Episcopal Church in Venice, FL. Interment will follow in the church’s All Saints Memorial Garden.

Mary DiBlasi Mady passed away peacefully after a short illness on Nov. 11, 2023. Mary was born on July 8, 1944 in Waterbury, CT to the late Toddy DiBlasi and late Maria (Keeney) DiBlasi. She was the oldest of five children and when her father died when she was 15, she and her brother Mark DiBlasi of Lexington, SC, helped with the child care of her three younger siblings: Denise Brindamour of Coventry, RI; Mike Di Blasi of Portland, OR; and the late David DiBlasi.

Mary worked her way through college, majoring in French. While in college, she won a national essay contest. The prize was a semester in the location of your choice and she chose Paris.

After college, she taught English and French in public school and after four years, decided to go into nursing. She took a two-year college course and became an RN in a psychiatric hospital and ran a unit for adolescent girls. During that time, she began writing procedure manuals for the hospital.

At this time, she decided to get a master’s degree in social work at Boston College.
