An Obituary: Barbara Genetti Bailey

Barbara Genetti Bailey, 81, of Lexington, formerly of Bedford, passed away peacefully at the Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center on Sunday, April 14, 2024, surrounded by her loving family.

Barbara was born in Cambridge on Sept. 15, 1942, and raised in Bedford. She is the daughter of the late Nicholas Genetti and Josephine (Poleo) Genetti and sister of the late Paul Genetti. She graduated from Bedford High School in 1960 and attended Rivier University in Nashua, NH where she graduated with a degree in biology in 1964.

Barbara is survived by Donald Bailey, her loving husband of 56 years whom she married in 1968. The couple resided in Lexington and enjoyed summers with family, extended family, and many friends over the years at the Bailey family lake house in Northwood, NH. 

Barbara is also survived by her three sons and their wives: Chris and Lisa Bailey of Windham, NH; Scott and Wendy Bailey of Derwood, MD; and Michael and Lisa Bailey of Bedford. She was also a proud grandmother of five grandchildren. Barbara enjoyed spending time playing games, baking cookies, and telling stories with Alex (23), Nicholas (21), Morgan (19), Joseph (17), and Kyle (14) as well as her nieces, nephew, goddaughter, and their families. She also was an avid Boston sports fan and would cheer for any college team a son, daughter-in-law, or grandchild attended.

For more than 40 years, Barbara worked as a medical technologist at Newton-Wellesley Hospital. Thirty of those years were on nights from 11 p.m. to 7 a.m.. A lover of all children, she spent nearly 50 years volunteering for the Massachusetts State PTA including serving as President from 1993-1995 and most recently as Membership Coordinator. Barbara and Don enjoyed traveling the country over the years to attend National PTA conventions. A devout Catholic, Barbara also served as a Eucharistic Minister for many years at Saint Brigid Parish in Lexington.

Visiting hours will be held from 1 to 3 p.m. and 5 to 8 p.m. on Friday, April 19 at the Shawsheen Funeral Home, 281 The Great Road in Bedford. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 9:30 a.m. on Saturday, April 20 in the St. Michael Parish, 90 Concord Rd., Bedford, followed by burial in Shawsheen Cemetery in Bedford. A reception will follow in American Legion Post #221, 357 The Great Road, Bedford.
