What’s Bedford Thinking? Thanksgiving Weekend Gift Shopping?

November 24, 2023

Welcome to Black Friday!

Thankfully, today is not the crowd-trampling event it once was, but still, almost 72.9 million shoppers showed up at stores for Black Friday in 2022 with 87.2 million consumers shopping online on the same day last year.

National Retail Federation President and CEO Matthey Shay said, “The Thanksgiving holiday shopping weekend is a tradition treasured by many American families.”

According to a Tidio poll, 80 percent of consumers plan to shop in some manner through the course of Black Friday through Cyber Monday. The majority of shopping is for gifts – with 50 percent of folks purchasing clothes and accessories, followed by toys, gift cards, books/video games/media, food and candy, and electronics.

Google released its 2023 Holiday 100 this month, its annual list of gift ideas collected by analyzing search and data trends throughout the year. Solo stoves, nugget ice makers, claw hair clips, hands-free dog leashes, anoraks, Stanley tumblers, and lab-grown/sustainable diamond jewelry have all made it big this year.
