Registration Open Now for Spring Bedford Babe Ruth Baseball and Softball

November 16, 2023

Registration for spring baseball and softball is now open to Bedford and Hanscom AFB residents, ages five and older.

Spring baseball and softball is designed to be a fun, team-oriented experience for all who participate. During the spring season, players will be instructed to develop the fundamentals of the game, including hitting, throwing, and defense. Bedford Babe Ruth Baseball and Softball is trying to help players realize their potential in the sport and develop a sense of good team sportsmanship and personal satisfaction.

The spring baseball and softball programs are run separately for players who are ages five and older (by Sept. 1, 2023). Please register for whichever program is suitable for your child.

The season officially begins the week after spring school break (April 22). Player evaluations for kids in grades three and up will take place on March 23, 2024, at the Edge. Once teams have been placed on a roster, the organization will communicate game schedules. Information about practice days/times is available on either the baseball or softball program pages.

Volunteers

Bedford Babe Ruth Baseball and Softball is a volunteer-run organization. It is dependent on parent volunteers to help us run the programs.

There are open positions on the Board of Directors and as League Commissioners, and most importantly, there is a need for team managers and coaches this spring, especially for the younger age levels. No prior experience is necessary in these areas. There is a coaches’ clinic and the baseball and softball commissioners are available for guidance.

Please consider joining us as a team manager, coach, commissioner, or board member. Working with the players is a very rewarding experience.

Umpires

Players or former players in grades seven and up are eligible to apply to be umpires for the spring season.

Questions about the program can be directed to Umpire-in-Chief, Ryan Bouchard.

Winter Clinics

The organization will be running weekly training clinics this winter for baseball and softball players of all skill levels in grades two through eight. Registration is open to Bedford and Hanscom AFB residents who entered grades two through eight in September 2023. Players must register ahead of time for the winter clinic series.

Clinics will be from 8 to 9 p.m. on Fridays, beginning Friday, Jan. 5. The clinics will encompass fielding skills, both basic and advanced, needed for a player’s development. Coaches will communicate about individual sessions to registered players through the Crossbar app. Clinics will take place at The Edge Sports Center, 191 Hartwell Road., Bedford.

Sponsors

Sponsorships are an important part of this program to ensure that all children who want to play can play. Last year, BBRBS sponsorships provided funding for:

  • Financial aid for a record number of players.
  • Safe equipment – There is a continual need to replace worn-out equipment.
  • Travis Desiato and John Hart Memorial Scholarships which honor two graduating seniors.
  • In addition, BBRBS continues to support and pursue improvements to current fields and new playing field opportunities working with the Town of Bedford.

If you would like to be a sponsor, please reach out to Community, Fundraising & Sponsorship Chairperson Michelle Kung [email protected].
