October 30, 2023

Ruth W. (Walcott) Kovitch, 90, passed away peacefully on Oct. 24, 2023, at the Sawtelle Family Hospice House in Reading.

Ruth was born on Nov. 12, 1932, in Jersey City, NJ. She was the daughter of the late Theodore E. and Edith M. (Strong) Walcott. Ruth was raised and educated in Medford and a graduate of the Medford High School. Ruth continued her education, graduating from Boston University.

Ruth married Bernard J. “Bernie” Kovitch on June 2, 1956. The couple moved to Wilmington in November 1958, where they raised their family.

Ruth and her family enjoyed their summers in Maine, where they loved lakeside camping. Some of their favorite spots were the Mighty Joe Campground and Apple Valley.

Ruth also looked forward to her “girls’ outings” to the annual Boston Flower Show where she enjoyed walking through the beautiful floral and garden displays.

Ruth was talented knitter. She took pride in the many prayer shawls she knitted for the Oncology patients at the Winchester Hospital.

Prior to retiring, Ruth worked as an administrative manager for many years. She started with the RCA Company, which was bought out by General Electric and later acquired by the Martin-Marietta Company in Burlington. Ruth was very efficient, professional, and detail oriented. Ruth was a woman of great faith and an active member of St. Mark’s Episcopal Church in Burlington for more than 50 years. Ruth and Bernie were ever present to help out and they made many friends with their follow parishioners and their families.

Ruth will be fondly remembered for her love of family and friends and she will forever be loved by all who knew her.

She was the devoted mother of Linda Kovitch who was a long-time Bedford resident before recently moving to Ipswich; Marcia Breakey and husband Roger Breakey, Jr. of Nashua, NH; Jeffrey Kovitch of Wilmington; and the late Larry Kovitch. She was the loving “Nana” of Roger Breakey III, Kristen Breakey, Leah Kovitch and partner Corey Levy, and Lynn Kovitch and husband Michael Polk.

Her cousins were the Rev. Daniel Strong and wife Rev. Nancy Strong of Manchester, NH; Richard Strong and wife Lydia of Niagara Falls, NY; and the late Roger Strong. Ruth is also survived by many nieces and nephews.
