An Obituary: Joan ‘Nana’ Tillson

Joan E. “Nana” Tillson, 78, of Alstead, NH, passed away on Tuesday, Sept. 19, 2023 in the comfort of her home surrounded by her family.

Joan, born on March 1, 1945, grew up in Bedford, daughter of Stanley and Florence (Stander) Fijal. She graduated from Bedford High School and the Chandler School for Women.

Joan and her late husband Bob (married for 45 years) raised their three children in Duxbury, where she was a licensed realtor. They relocated to Naples, FL before moving to New Hampshire 20 years ago to be closer to family and grandchildren.

Joan was a devoted daughter, sister, wife, mother, Nana, and friend. She loved spending time with family, going to the beach, gardening, and being involved with her grandkids and their activities. Nana was adored by all and loved her dogs Hank and Boone who were her trusty companions, along with her dearest friend Kathy.

Joan is survived by her brother Robert S. Fijal of Bedford as well as her son Ryan and his two children, Reese and Ella, of Redondo Beach, CA; her daughter Karen and amazing son-in-law Pete of Alstead NH and their daughters in addition to “Nana’s besties” Olivia and Nora. She is survived by her son Scot and his wife Keri and their boys Drew, Luke and Kyle of Pembroke.

Services will be held at 2 p.m. on Friday, Oct. 20 at the National Veterans Cemetery in Bourne.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial donations be made in Joan’s name to your favorite Veterans organization or to a charity of one’s choice.

Arrangements are under the care of the Fletcher Funeral Home of Keene, NH.
