An Obituary: Gloria Ruth Brenton

Gloria Ruth Brenton of Bedford passed away at the Care Dimensions Hospice House in Lincoln on Thursday, Oct. 19, 2023, at the age of 87.

Gloria was born in Arlington to the late John and Ethel (Andrews) Brenton.

She was raised in Lexington and moved to Bedford in 1961. She was a graduate of Lexington High School. After graduation, she began working at the bank at Hanscom Air Force Base. She then went to work for ITEK in Lexington for 25 years as a secretary.  

She loved her nieces and nephews and her dog, “Duke.” She enjoyed camping, reading, and visiting her friends in Pennsylvania. She had a pen pal in England since the second grade and they became very good friends. She was a wonderful neighbor and friend and was always willing to help anyone in need. She was very generous to many charities.

She was predeceased by her parents as well as her sisters Elaine Wetmore and Betty Lou Pray, and her brother-in-law Kenneth Wetmore. She is survived by her brother-in-law James Pray. She is also survived by nieces and nephews, Susan Kleamenakis, John Pray and his wife Susan, David Wetmore and his wife Evan, Debra Smoske and her fiancé Ted, and Peter Pray and his wife Eileen as well as her great nieces and nephews, Timothy Pray, Kaitlyn Williams, Michael Pray, Ashley and Melissa Kleamenakis, Harrison Smoske, Alexandra and Lydia Pray, and Emma and Natalie Wetmore, as well as 10 great-great nieces and nephews.

Visitation will be held from 10 to 11 a.m. on Tuesday, Oct. 24 at the Bedford Funeral Home, 167 Great Rd., Bedford. A service will immediately follow.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105.
