Maureen Ann Mehta, 78, of Belmont passed away at Mount Auburn Hospital with her daughter Sheila by her side on Sept. 19, 2023. She was the loving and proud mother of Dr. Sheila Mehta-Green of Bedford and her husband Brian Green.

Maureen was born in Boston on Sept. 21, 1944. Always living in the Boston area, at age 10, she moved to Brighton, which is where she has always called home. She attended St. Columbkille’s school through high school graduation where she met lifelong friends. She then attended and graduated from Katherine Gibbs Secretarial School and took a position as an executive secretary at Polaroid Corporation in Cambridge, Massachusetts.

While working at Polaroid, she lived in Arlington at Colonial Village, where she would meet her future husband, Dr. Avinash Mehta, who also worked at Polaroid. They met playing volleyball at their apartment complex which blossomed into 51 years of marriage. She transitioned her work to a homemaker in November 1970 when she became a mom.

Throughout her life, Maureen dedicated her days to supporting her family. In addition to taking on many volunteer positions as Girl Scout Leader, School Volunteer, Religious Education teacher and carpool taxi, she helped care for her niece and nephew, parents and great aunt.

Maureen loved to socialize with family and friends. Traveling around the world, meeting new people and embracing social media to stay connected to everyone in her life. She loved to spend time in Gloucester with her extended family.

Most of all, she cherished her time with her grandsons, watching them play soccer, attending their music recitals, theater performances, and spending every Saturday with them to hear about their week.
