An Obituary: Thomas C. Bruha

Thomas C. Bruha, 90, of Bedford died July 31, 2023, surrounded by his loving family.

Tom was born in La Crosse, WI on Aug. 22, 1932 to the late Carl and Mabel Bruha. He grew up in La Crosse, where he is being inducted into the Aquinas High School Hall of Fame for his athletic achievements. Tom married the love of his life Geralline (Giraud) Bruha 68 years ago on July 30, 1955.

Tom graduated from Portland University in 1961. His career started at Boeing, moving to the Army Corps of Engineers for an additional 32 years. Thirty of those years were in Massachusetts as a coastal engineer. Following his retirement, Tom worked part time at Enterprise Rent-a-Car for 25 years.   

Tom was a long-time active member and volunteer at St. Michael parish in Bedford. He served as a Eucharistic Minister, usher, religious educational teacher and in any capacity needed for the church.

Tom led a life of service. He served in the Army for two years, as a public servant for the federal government with the Army Corps of Engineers, and as a volunteer for the VA Hospital in Bedford for the next 30 years. Tom also served the Town of Bedford as a coach for many years, helped to start the Bedford Youth Basketball League. He also volunteered at the Bedford food pantry.

Tom brought his family from coast-to-coast, leaving Seattle for Boston. His sense of adventure brought him to every beach, mountain or campground he could find from Oregon to Maine. He was a wonderful husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather, brother and friend.  

He is survived by his wife Geralline (Giraud) Bruha and five children: Charles and his wife Kathy, Michael, Mark and his wife Stacey, Mary Krol and her husband Jed and Ann Ricketson and her husband Mark as well as two sisters, Judy Murphy and Ruth Mettner, 14 grandchildren, three great grandchildren and his cousin Joan Kozlowski. He was predeceased by his brother William Bruha.

His funeral Mass will be celebrated at St. Michael Church, 90 Concord Rd., Bedford, at 10 a.m. on Monday, Aug. 7. Visitation will be held at the Bedford Funeral Home, 167 Great Rd., Bedford, from noon to 2 p.m. on Sunday, Aug. 6.
