An Obituary: Nancy Kelleher Forrest

Nancy Kelleher Forrest, 88, passed away peacefully on Aug. 19, 2023. She was born on July 20, 1935 in Lewiston, Maine, the daughter of Arthur and Tina (Cummings) Kelleher.

Growing up surrounded by her Finnish farming family, Nancy graduated from Paris High School, South Paris, Maine, in 1953. She then received her B.A. from Tufts University and her M.A. from Lesley College.

When her two children were old enough to free range after school, Nancy began her career at Applewild School in Fitchburg, retiring as Head of Tutoring and Testing after 21 years.

She volunteered for many election cycles at the Bedford polls. Nancy was also founding member of the Bedford League of Women Voters, and was active in the Unitarian church. She was never too busy for tennis, skiing, traveling, or spending time with her large circle of friends and her book club.

Nancy was predeceased by her husband of 44 years, Jess Forrest, her sister Annette Kelleher, and many aunts, uncles, cousins, and friends. She is survived by her sister Ruth Hertz of North Wayne, Maine; daughter Liz Forrest and partner Peter Maurer of Billerica; son Greg Forrest and wife Hannah Webber of Surry, Maine; grandson Baxter Forrest of Tucson, AZ; and granddaughter Katherine Forrest of Atlanta, GA.

There will be a celebration of Nancy’s life at 11 a.m. on Saturday, Sept. 16 at The First Parish Unitarian-Universalist, 75 Great Rd., Bedford.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Friends of The Bedford Free Public Library.
