An Obituary: Barbara (Allan) Hill

August 16, 2023

Barbara (Allan) Hill of Bedford, born on May 17, 1940 in Litchfield Village, Minnesota to LeRoy (Bud) and Gladys Allan, passed away on July 31, 2023 after a 20-plus-year battle with breast cancer.

She is survived by her husband of 60 years, Paul, son Mike (Carla), and daughter Karen (Tom) Segreve.

Barb graduated from the University of Minnesota where she met Paul, also a student.  During this time, she established a lifelong friendship with Barbara Collins and Howard and Midge Glenna.

In addition, Barb and Paul became godparents to Debbie Glovatsky, daughter of Barb’s Aunt Eunice and Uncle Cal Harms.

Prior to attending the University of Minnesota, Barb developed a friendship with Patty Johnson that would last her lifetime. This friendship began in junior high school when Patty would help Barb read the chalkboard and she would, in turn, help Patty solve algebraic equations.

During Barb’s lifetime, she formed many other enduring and meaningful bonds, including those with her work colleagues at the Lahey Hospital & Medical Center (Burlington) and Hanscom Air Force Base, her neighbors and friends in Bedford, as well as her cats. Barb and Paul became “foodies” and traveled extensively during retirement.

A celebration of life will be held at 11 a.m. on Thursday, Aug. 24 at the First Church of Christ, Congregational UCC, 25 Great Rd., Bedford (781-275-7951).  Prior to the service, people are invited to visit the family in the Vestry located next to the Sanctuary from 10 to 11 a.m.

For individuals who are unable to attend, the service will be available via the “LIVE” link on the Church’s website, https://www.youtube.com/@firstchurchofchristbedford3587.

Interment will be at Shawsheen Cemetery immediately following the service.
