An Obituary: Gerald G. ‘Jerry’ Hartmann

Gerald G. “Jerry” Hartmann of Bedford died on July 19, 2023. He was the beloved husband of the late Darlene F. (Peterson). Loving father of Scott A. Hartmann of Bedford. He is also survived by grandson Philip Hartmann of Quincy and great-granddaughter Mia of Quincy. 

Jerry was born on Aug. 31, 1936 in Minneapolis, MN. He served the U.S. Air Force for 20 years, retiring as a Tech Sergeant. He then worked as a dental lab technician.

Jerry was past Legion Commander of American Legion Post #221 and loyal volunteer and advocate. He was also active with the VFW and with the town of Bedford, planning the Memorial Day and Veterans Day ceremonies. He volunteered at the E.N. Rogers Memorial Veterans Hospital in Bedford.

In February, the Bedford Legion Riders, an affiliate of Post 221, honored Hartmann, 86, with a surprise recognition: a customized plaque of honor from the nonprofit organization Give2Those.

Give2Those, a Newton-based national charity, honors active military, veterans, Gold Star families, and first responders.

 A Committal Service with full military honors in Massachusetts National Cemetery, Bourne MA at 1:30 p.m. on Wednesday July 26, 2023. Family and friends are invited.
