An Obituary: Donald J. Caristi, Sr.

Donald J. Caristi, Sr. of Naples, Florida, a longtime resident of Bedford and York Beach, Maine died on June 27, 2023.

Donald was born in Boston on March 14, 1935 and was the son of the late Salvatore and Josephine (Venesi) Caristi. 

Donald was a graduate of Medford High School, Class of 1953 where he was an offensive lineman on the football team and a proud Mustang. Following graduation, he attended Northeastern University and attained a business degree in 1958. 

That year, he also married Teresa Costa on June 29 and they moved to Bedford in 1973 to raise their family. 

He was employed by Spaulding Business System for more than 35 years where he started as a sales representative and worked his way up to Senior Vice President before he retired in 1996.  He was an avid golfer, tennis player and enjoyed nothing more than spending time with his family. He was a member of St. Michael’s Parish.

After retirement, he and Teresa moved from Bedford to Naples, Florida where they enjoyed their retirement during the winter months down south and journeyed back north in the summer to their home in York Beach, Maine.

Donald is predeceased by his wife of 56 years, Teresa E. Caristi, and survived by his five children and their spouses: Karen Lua and her husband George of Bedford; Diane Marino and her husband Thomas of Bedford; Linda Iacopucci and her husband Dana of Burlington; Donald J. Caristi, Jr. and his wife Jennifer of Scituate; and Teresa Ferrelli and her husband Peter of Winchester.

He is also survived by his 12 grandchildren: Stephen, Nikki, Alli, Joseph, Kari, Lauren, Michael, Christopher, Anna, John, Sophia and Benjamin. He is also survived by two great-grandchildren: Henry and Pacey and his sister Marjorie (Caristi) Jacobs of Naples Florida and York Beach Maine.

The funeral will be held from Bedford Funeral Home, 167 Great Rd. Bedford at 9 a.m. on Monday, July 10, followed by a funeral Mass at St. Michael Church, 90 Concord Rd. Bedford at 10 a.m. Burial will be private. Visitation will be held at the funeral home from 2 to 4 p.m. on Sunday, July 9.
