This week, the movie trailer for “Challengers” landed. “Challengers” is a tennis film starring A-list actress Zendaya with scenes filmed at the Wedgewood Swim Club last summer. The movie is expected out in theaters on September 15.
With the first day of summer and last day of school also this week, we’re thinking about summer movies.
Big release movies go back to the big 1975 release of “Jaws.” With more flexible schedules for students and people looking for things to do in air conditioning, the tradition of anticipating summer blockbusters has continued with Disney Pixar animations and superheroes generally hitting the screens when the weather is warm. But the advent of streaming services, the pandemic closing down theaters, and the cost of most everything on the rise, the film industry has been evolving.
Some of the “summer movies” have already been released. The most anticipated summer films are titles we’ve seen before: “Spiderman,” “The Fast and the Furious,” “Indiana Jones,” “Mission Impossible,” “The Little Mermaid,” and “The Flash,” with new titles in comedies such as “Joy Ride,” “Theater Camp,” and the “Barbie” movie tossed in with dramas like “Oppenheimer” as well.
We’re wondering, are movies part of your summer plans? Take our poll!
