If you usually drive on Railroad Avenue along the south perimeter of the Bedford High School outdoor athletic complex, you might want to find an alternate route late Monday afternoon.

Two BHS varsity teams are scheduled to host Division 3 opening-round MIAA state tournament games on contiguous fields at 4 p.m.

The 11th-seeded softball team will face Westborough, ranked 22nd, on Miss G Field. Next door at Sabourin Field, the boys’ lacrosse team, seeded 13th, will entertain Essex North Shire, the agricultural and technical school in Danvers. Essex will be moving in the fall from the Commonwealth Athletic Conference to the Cape Ann League.

In addition, the next match for the BHS boys’ tennis team may also be scheduled for Monday afternoon on the courts on the northwest border of Sabourin Field.

The girls’ lacrosse team, seeded 19th, travels to 14th-ranked Dartmouth High School, probably on Monday for its opening game.

Dartmouth traveled to Bedford almost a year ago in the state quarterfinals, falling by a score of 17-8. This year Dartmouth is 14-3 and the Bucs are 6-11, but the two are separated by only six places in the power rankings because of comparative strength of schedules.
