On Wednesday October 24, 2012, the Bedford Police Department participated in Operation Yellow Blitz.  Operation Yellow Blitz is an appeal by the Massachusetts Registry of Motor Vehicles, in conjunction with local law enforcement and school pupil transportation providers, to draw attention to the national problem of vehicles driving past school buses that are picking-up and discharging school pupils.

The Bedford Police Department was out specifically looking for motorists that did not stop for school buses that were displaying red flashing lights and stop signs.  If you were observed not stopping for a school bus, you were given a citation for M.G.L. 90 § 14 which carries a fine of $250 or more if it is a subsequent offense.

The Bedford Police Department and Bedford Charter Service are hoping you will keep our children in mind every day you travel around town.  Please stop for school buses that are displaying stop signs and flashing red lights.  You could save a child’s life.
