Here Comes the Sun… And There It Goes: Solar Eclipse Viewing at the BFPL

April 1, 2024

The Bedford Free Public Library will be holding a Solar Eclipse Viewing Party on Monday, April 8, starting at 2 p.m. on the lawn outside of the library.

While Massachusetts is not in the path for totality, Bedford will experience a partial eclipse beginning around 2:16 p.m. with peak viewing anticipated at 3:39 p.m. and ending at 4:39 pm.

Noreen O’Gara, Assistant Director of the Bedford Free Public Library said, “We plan to spend most of the time outside, but will also open the Meeting Room and stream the event in case the weather is not great or for anyone who needs seating.”

The library will also have a limited number of solar glasses available to Minuteman Library Card holders that can be picked up (as well as a pair for household members) at the Circulation Desk any time after 11 a.m. on April 1 until supplies run out.

Spotters are advised to bring solar glasses to the Eclipse viewing party and use eye protection, there will be glasses available on-site only if supplies last.

O’Gara says, “If no one in your household has a library card, now is the right time to sign up. The library has so much to offer everyone.”
