More Than 3,400 Vote in Presidential Primary

March 6, 2024

Almost one-third of the town’s 10,443 registered voters cast ballots in Tuesday’s presidential primary election, according to unofficial statistics issued late in the evening by the town clerk’s office.

And 2,149 of those 3,403 voters – more than 63 percent – voted early, mostly by mail.

The breakdown by ballot was 1,905 Democratic, 1,477 Republican, and 21 Libertarian.

“It usually takes a few days to get the official results,” said Town Clerk Bridget Rodrigue in an email.

Former South Carolina Gov. Nikki Haley, who ended her presidential campaign on Wednesday morning, won’t be blaming the Bedford outcome, where she received 783 votes to 630 for former President Donald Trump, according to the unofficial report.

President Joe Biden received 1,652 Democratic votes, almost 87 percent. The remaining 253 were split among fringe candidates and write-ins, as well as 101 specifying “no preference”, which some interpret as a political statement.

Rodrigue and her team of staff members and election workers will be back at John Glenn Middle School on Saturday for the town election.
