Letter to the Editor: Support for Dan Brosgol for Select Board

Submitted by Mark Bailey

Getting to yes is a very different thing from winning. Getting to yes for a committee, or a town, requires a mindset that steps back from narrow views of the challenge to encompass the perspectives of all stakeholders. Dan Brosgol has consistently demonstrated a capacity to listen to alternative viewpoints and consider new perspectives, and he channels that into rich, productive discussion, honoring and drawing more viewpoints into the conversation, and causing people to feel heard. By embracing the spirit of “yes, and,” Dan has shown that he knows what it takes to get to yes.

The best leaders are energized by challenges. Seeing Dan shepherd the School Committee through pandemic-related decisions was an inspiration. Even with incomplete information, conflicting priorities, and emotions running high, Dan always brought a can-do attitude and an open mind. He never failed to do the hard work to come prepared. He asked thoughtful, probing questions that advanced common understanding, and he kept the meetings running smoothly and productively even late into the night.

Dan’s record of dedicated service and demonstrated commitment to the town speaks for itself. He cares deeply about our future. He knows how to get to yes and has the perspective and energy to drive thoughtful decisions on the challenges this town faces and will face. Please join me in supporting Dan Brosgol for Select Board.
