Celebrate the Year of the Dragon with the PCD and Bedford Library

January 19, 2024

Submitted by the Parents Diversity Council

Everyone is invited to Celebrate the Year of the Dragon with the Parents Diversity Council and the Bedford Free Public Library at 2 p.m. on Saturday, Jan. 27 at the Lt. Job Lane School, 66 Sweetwater Ave.

This event was formerly held at the library, but the celebration has grown so much that a larger space is needed.

And with more space, more performances have been added. Two special groups will be sharing their talents. The Jia family is returning, all of whom are students at the John Glenn Middle School. They will be performing Chinese classical music and sharing their traditional instruments. In addition, the Boston Korean Traditional Dance Academy will perform a Fan Dance and Janggo Drum Dance.

Before the performances, a variety of crafts and displays will be available for participants. These activities have been curated in partnership with volunteers from Bedford’s Chinese and Korean communities to honor the Year of the Dragon and to share some of their Lunar New Year traditions.

The Bedford Free Public Library will be showcasing books about Lunar New Year and how it is celebrated in different countries. And a sensory-friendly area will also be available with a quiet space and special activities.

This is a free drop-in event, no registration is required. It begins at 2 p.m. with performances starting at 2:30 p.m.

Crafts and activities are best for kids, ages pre-K to fifth grade, but everyone is welcome.
