Margot Fleischman announced on Monday night that she will not be a candidate for re-election to a fifth term on the Bedford Select Board.

In a brief comment at the end of the board’s open-session agenda, Fleischman said, “Twelve years on this board has been quite a wonderful experience.” She added that she still has more meetings before the Town Election on March 9.

Fellow board members praised Fleischman’s career.

“Thank you for your leadership and dedication to the community,” said Chair Bopha Malone.

Pauk Mortenson noted that Fleischman has served on the board longer than his 10 years of residency. “Your command of facts alone is impressive,” he said.

Shawn Hanegan, who was appointed to fill an unexpired year on the Planning Board when Fleischman was elected selectman in 2012, said, “You always are able to inform a lot of issues just by knowing the facts and the background.”

Fleischman, 52, was first elected to the Planning Board in 2007 and re-elected in 2010.

Since the summer of 2021, she has worked as director of strategic initiatives and communications for the City of Melrose.
