Election 2024: Margot Fleischman Announces She Will Not Seek Fifth Term on Select Board

On Monday night, I announced that I will not run for reelection to the Select Board this March. It has been an honor and a privilege to serve in this role for twelve years.

I thank my family for their support – especially my husband Bill and our children Giuliana and Theodore. Even when my town responsibilities kept me out many nights, or when Annual and Special Town Meetings fell on all of their birthdays, their patience and love never wavered.

I am proud of the many things we have done as a town over the years I have been in office. Looking back on what I hoped to accomplish when I ran for Select Board for the first time in 2012, I can’t help but feel good about the progress we’ve made. My goal then as now was to help Bedford succeed as an economically dynamic town that attracts new businesses, including places to gather and spend our money locally; a vibrant town with a strong sense of community; an accessible town where people of all ages and incomes can find a place to live; and an environmentally responsible town where we take climate change seriously.

I feel tremendous satisfaction knowing that my efforts have helped us make important strides on these issues. Whether it was increasing safe options to get to the center of town by constructing the Davis Road boardwalk or ensuring that our neighbors at Bedford Village could keep their homes, the projects I got to work on had real impacts on people’s lives.

While leaving is always bittersweet, I feel certain that the Select Board in good hands and that this work will go on.

I am delighted that Dan Brosgol has stepped forward to run. Known to so many in town as an active dad of five, valued School Committee member, and former Kids Club director, Dan is just the kind of experienced civic leader Bedford needs, and I’m proud to offer him my full support.

Finally, to my neighbors and friends, the voters of Bedford: thank you. Local government is truly a partnership, and you have been my partners in this work. I have appreciated your feedback and engagement on the issues we have championed and cherished every kind word and message of thanks you have sent. I look forward to serving in other ways in the years to come, and will always be grateful for your giving me the chance to represent you on the Select Board.
