Council on Aging Newsletter – Dec. 2023

December 4, 2023

Submitted by Alison Cservenschi, Director

December, the last month of 2023, is here. The year has flown by again and I open by thanking each and every one of you who attended our programs, used our services, participated in surveys, just popped in for a chat and coffee, or simply read this newsletter. I truly value your participation, suggestions, support, and feedback.

We improve what we offer every year thanks to you. I also thank our numerous and dedicated volunteers, without whom we could not provide half of what we do. Our community partners, leaders, presenters, performers, and network of connections also bring so much to our COA. For all of this, I am proud and grateful to them for helping us provide a great year.

This month, we have a calendar packed with events. Our annual holiday party, sponsored, in part, by the FBCOA, will be at 1 p.m. on Friday, Dec. 8.

Holiday Sparkle is back at 1 p.m. on Wednesday, Dec. 20 when we enjoy the season, ring in the New Year together, and dress in our sparkiest outfits! We are trying a new, simple guided watercolor program this month; see more in the latest COA newsletter for this no-cost program and sign up to try it out.

There are also many musical events you to attend this month.

The next FBCOA trip is on Sunday, Dec. 10 to Yankee Candle Village, Salem Cross Inn for lunch, and then to the Bright Nights at Forest Park in Springfield. Thanks to Linda Langone, of the FBCOA, for all her work on planning and leading these wonderful trips. Payments are required at sign-up going forward for all trips. Winter officially begins on the Dec. 21 and it is time to get your winter and emergency plans finalized.

We will be closed on Christmas Day, Monday, Dec. 25 and the following Monday for the New Year.

Please note, as a reminder during the month of January, all first-timers coming to an exercise class can try any first class for free.  Make us part of your New Year’s resolutions and get moving. We have many different types of classes to join. We look forward to helping you stay fit and active in the new year in whatever way you choose.

Our exercise classes are also sponsored in part by the FBCOA.

In closing, I look forward to celebrating the season together with you and the entire COA staff. I send you warm, holiday cheer from Alissa, Danika, Lisa, Maryann, Leslie, and Marie as well as Steve, our BLT driver, and myself.

We all wish you, your family, and loved ones a very happy, healthy, and safe holiday season. Take care. Hope to see you soon.
