
Top-seeded Bedford High School entertains Reading Memorial on Wednesday in round of 16 in the MIAA Division 2 boys’ soccer tournament.
Game time at Sabourin Field is 7 p.m. The winner will advance to the state quarterfinals. Tickets are available only through the GoFan system (https://gofan.co/app/school/MA14503). There will also be a link at the gate.
The Bucs scored three unanswered goals in the second half to secure a 4-1 win over Doherty Memorial of Worcester on Monday evening at home in the opening round of the playoffs. Senior Cy Torrey scored what turned out to be the game-winning goal. Head Coach Dave Boschetto praised Torrey for his effective work both ways.
Spencer Goss tallied for Bedford to open the scoring, assisted by Leo Natalizio. Goss and Akira Ung added late game goals, assisted by Shea Arsenault and Celestin Hunziker, respectively. Boschetto also applauded the backs’ defensive strength, as well as the performance of junior goalkeeper Grant Bouchard.
Reading, in a mild upset, defeated Wayland on Saturday, 2-0 in the opening round. The Rockets, seeded 17th, have a record of 6-6-5.
