On Saturday, Bedford residents gathered at Veterans Memorial Park for the annual Veterans Day observances.

An annual highlight of the ceremonies are the individual tributes to specific veterans – living or deceased – by attendees, who announce names and relationships and insert miniature flags into a memorial wreath of honor.

Speakers, once again representing government and veterans’ organizations, included Select Board Chair Bopha Malone, State Rep. Kenneth Gordon, Commander of American Legion Post 221 Rob Bowes, and the Rev. Dr. Alonzo Chisholm, Commander of Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 1628. Sgt. Brian Bills offered the opening and closing prayers.

The younger generation was also represented at the observance. Bedford Scouts led the recitation of the “Pledge of Allegiance.” The Bedford High School Marching Band played “The Star-Spangled Banner” and “God Bless America,” and two members of the band played “Taps.”

Bedford’s Public Safety Honor Guard escorted the Patriotic Holiday Committee members and dignitaries to the dais, accompanied by musicians of the Bedford Minutemen.
