The Bedford High School girls’ cross country team captured its first Dual County League Small School championship in the league meet at Boston’s Franklin Park.

It was a close competition with Bedford finishing with 30 points, two ahead of Weston. (Scoring totals were affected by two Boston Latin finishers who ran unattached.)

Leading the way was senior Samantha Sheahan, who earned the DCL Small individual title and finished ninth among all DCL runners in 20 minutes, 19 seconds. Sophomore Addi Poulter was second in the Small, 11 seconds behind her teammate. She was followed by junior Anna Massaro in sixth, junior Vivian Liu finished 12th, and senior Elena Protasowicki was 13th. Other team members were Grace Niu in 14th place and Farrah Scott in 18th.

The title caps a successful season that also features an undefeated dual-meet schedule and the first DCL Small regular-season crown.

“I am proud of all the girls,” Coach Joel Hebert said. “Sam and Addi have been dominant all season, routinely coming in first and second during dual meets. All the girls have worked hard and seen major gains in strength this season. I look forward to seeing what we can do in a couple of weeks at divisionals.”

On the boys’ side, senior Johnny Garraway led the boys to a third-place team finish. He placed third in the DCL Small and 13th overall. His time was 16 minutes, 33 seconds. The boys scoring five also included senior Carter Rauch, freshman Sahill Rotella, senior Oren Brosgol, and senior Anthony O’Brien.

Also competing for BHS in this race were Will Protasowicki in 27th place and Caden Shimko in 28th.
