Bedford Day’s Candy Toss Parade Tradition

September 25, 2023

One of the traditions of the annual Bedford Day Parade is the tossing and gathering of candy. Once someone in the parade tosses candy, kids race to gather as much as they can.

Here are photos of the candy tossing during Saturday’s Bedford Day Parade.

While candy tossing during the parade is a fun tradition, it’s concerning to watch young children racing toward moving vehicles to gather candy. The drivers/ riders in large vehicles may not realize the potential hazard they’re creating when children run close to their tires. Serious accidents have occurred in other towns with such tossing from vehicles. I wish that candy tossing could be left to marchers/pedestrians in the parade.
Thanks for considering.
