Annual Trash and Recycling Guide Mailed to Bedford Homes

June 12, 2023

Bedford’s latest “Annual Trash and Recycling Guide” landed in residential mailboxes last week.

The booklet sent from the Department of Public Works answers many of the most common questions regarding trash and recycling in town, as well as tips and information for recycling, composting, donating, or disposing of items not accepted in the curbside pickup program.

There is also a calendar of the holiday trash schedule for the upcoming fiscal year. According to the schedule, residents can expect Monday curbside trash and recycling pickups through June, July, and August. Upcoming holidays: This coming week curbside trash and recycling will be delayed one day, collection will occur on Tuesday, June 20, in observance of Juneteenth on Monday. Curbside pickup will be on schedule the week of Independence Day/July 4 (expect a regular Monday pickup on July 3).

Liz Antanavica, Bedford Trash and Recycling Administrator, said that the biggest change in this upcoming year is that Republic Services will no longer handle customer service. She asks that everyone discard or recycle outdated information that references the Republic Services 1-800 number as a resource. Instead, residents are encouraged to use the Waste Wizard tool found on the town website: https://bedfordma.gov/478/Trash-Recycling. Antanavica calls the online tool “one-stop shop for all things Bedford Waste.”

The Waste Wizard tool shares the curbside pickup schedule, an online scheduler for bulky item pickups, and a search wizard which gives options or instructions for the disposal of most household items from baby gear to replacement windows. Antanavica said that residents have suggested additions to the wizard that they’ve been able to incorporate, and welcomes feedback to continue to improve the resource.

Antanavica said, “Residents who need assistance or are experiencing technical issues with the tool can always call me directly at 781-275-7605 x4261.”

Most of the information in the Annual Trash and Recycling Guide can also be found within the Waste Wizard or on the Trash and Recycling section of the town website. The full document can also be found here:
