School Committee Welcomes New Student Representative

The 2022-23 student representative to the School Committee “believes in a balanced and healthy approach to high school life.”

Superintendent of Schools Philip Conrad introduced Bedford High School senior Elora Syed to the School Committee at its meeting Tuesday. And her credentials more than verified his description.

Syed is a two-sport varsity athlete – volleyball in the fall and swim in the winter; she is a Dual County League swim all-star and two-year captain, and has been a competitive swimmer for more than a decade.

But wait – there’s more. Syed was a first-place state History Fair winner and has been active at BHS with the Relay for Life and the Interact Club. Conrad said she also attends a school where she learns about her Bengali heritage.

The new student representative did not abstain from participating in her first meeting. During a discussion of learning assessment results, she said she sees her role as an advocate for students, and “the way to advocate for students is to ask them how they learn best.”
