Submitted by the Town of Bedford
The Bedford Select Board has voted to re-establish the Charter & Bylaw Review Committee and is seeking 3 residents to serve as at-large members.
By joining this committee, residents will have unique opportunity – available every five years – to impact on the Town by studying the workings of Town government, reviewing the Town Charter & General Bylaws, and recommending revisions and amendments.
This 7-member committee will consist of three at-large members, the Town Moderator, and one member each of the Select Board, School Committee, and Planning Board. General Bylaw amendments must be approved at a Town Meeting and Charter amendments must be approved by a town-wide ballot vote. The committee’s work will end after any Charter amendments are adopted and then approved at a Town Election.
The three at-large members will be appointed by the Select Board after an interview process. Any interested Bedford voter should submit a Questionnaire for Volunteers, which is available online at www.bedfordma.gov/vcc or from the Town Manager’s office (781-275-1111). The Charter and Bylaws are available online at www.bedfordma.gov by navigating to the Town Manager page and selecting “Charter & Bylaws”.
