Letter to the Editor: A Thank You from Planning Board Member Chris Gittins

March 17, 2021

Submitted by Chris Gittins

Thank you to everyone who participated in the Town Election this year.   Whether you were a candidate or a voter, our democracy succeeds because of your civic engagement.  I have the greatest respect for your commitment.

I am grateful to the citizens of Bedford for their support.  Bedford is a wonderful community, but we face challenges including housing, commercial development, mobility, and reducing our greenhouse gas emissions.  The decisions we make now, on those and other issues, affect not just our immediate future but will shape how Bedford evolves in the decades to come.  We have successes to build on.  I look forward to working with you and with the other members of the Planning Board to shape our future together.

Running for office is a team effort.  I couldn’t have done it by myself and I didn’t.  The list of people who helped me this year is too long for this space.  I will simply say, To all of you who contacted friends and neighbors, mailed “Dear Friend” postcards, wrote letters of support, put up a yard sign, offered kind words, shared your thoughts and concerns, and helped me become more educated on the issues that the Planning Board faces, “Thank you.”

I look forward to serving on the Planning Board and earning your trust over the next three years.
