The MassWarriors, a semi-pro AA team in the New England Football League, plans to call Bedford’s Sabourin Field home for its 2019 season. The team’s home opener against the Vermont Storm is scheduled for 7 pm on Saturday, August 3.
Why semi-pro football in Bedford? Wayland’s turf field where the team has played for several seasons is under construction this year. David Salvi, a graduate of Bedford High School, suggested Sabourin Field and team owner Stephen Maycock negotiated the five-game field rental through the Bedford Recreation Department.
Although the team will sell admission tickets, a condition of their rental is free access to the walking track for Bedford residents during the game, a condition that was also part of the team’s agreements in Wayland. Children under 10, Veterans, and First Responders are also invited to attend games without charge.
