Town Proposes Annual Town Meeting Vote on Bus Stop Shelter Pilot Program

Submitted by the Town of Bedford

After much collaboration, outreach and hard work of Town staff, and board and committee support, the Town of Bedford is excited to propose a pilot program to install bus stop shelters along the MBTA bus route.  To begin, the first year of the pilot program proposes to fund two bus stop shelters in the Fiscal Year 2020 Capital Plan. This funding will allow for the installation of two bus stop shelters at existing MBTA bus stops at 1) South Road at Railroad Avenue and 2) Loomis Street at Great Road.

If residents vote approval of the project at March’s Annual Town Meeting, funding will be available for July 1, and Town staff will begin to meet with neighbors in May and June to discuss the project and take official input.

Evaluation for installation of future bus stop shelters is also projected for Fiscal Year 2021.

We are so excited about the proposal of this pilot initiative and the positive impact it will have in the community!
