Gate Valve Inspection Project Begins on November 5

Submitted by the Bedford Department of Public Works

Wachs Water Services has recently been hired to test approximately 550 valves within the Town’s water distribution system.

These gate valves allow the DPW to isolate sections of pipe in the event of a water main break, reducing the number of homes that are affected.  They are also used during annual hydrant flushing to direct water to the ends of the line.

All valves are normally in the open position, so this project will ensure the valves are operable in the event of an emergency.

The Wachs crew will begin on November 5th and should be complete by November 20th.  Work hours will be 7:00 AM to 3:30 PM.  Residents may notice a temporary discoloration to the water, but if the problem persists, please contact the DPW at (781) 275-7605.
