Two Bedford Rotarians were recently honored by Rotary District 7910. Monday, at its Celebration of Service Heroes, Paula Gilarde and Marc Hamilton were among the 25 Rotarians from across the district recognized for their embracing of the Rotary motto, “Service Above Self”, through their service to people around the globe, in their community and their club.
Paula Gilarde, a newer Bedford Rotarian, who also serves as Outreach Manager for Bedford TV, participated in a Hurricane Relief Mission to Moca, Puerto Rico in early February, just a month after becoming a Rotarian. Moca is one of the hardest-hit areas ravaged by the near Cat-5 hurricane. The group saw first-hand the magnitude of the damage wrought by the storm and took part in delivering relief supplies to residents. They also helped supply the vaccine and with immunizing people against the flu and tetanus. Paula documented her experience and presents it in a video that can be seen on YouTube – https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fVEJ-n3BbmA
Marc Hamilton, a five-year member of Bedford Rotary and current club secretary, was recognized for his service and support to the club and the projects it undertakes. In her nominating testimonial, Bedford Rotary President Jacquelin Apsler said, “[Marc] supports every event or activity undertaken by our Club with enormous diligence and responsibility, functioning as a repository of procedure and history and a ‘pair of hands’ one can always count on to help further the mission.”
