A late-afternoon update about Bedford’s power outages, access to warming stations and public wifi, what to do if your power, telephone or Internet goes out, post-storm clean-up, and Bedford’s AM emergency radio station!
In the Event of an Emergency Call 911
March’s second Nor’easter caused a Monstah Mess. Fallen trees, large limbs, and utility wires have created traffic detours and power outages in many neighborhoods around Bedford. At 5 pm on Thursday afternoon, Eversource reported that 36% (2,270 customers) were without electricity.
Bedford Town Officials and DPW crews along with tree companies and power line crews are working on recovery and cleanup, and most frequently restoration of power depends on a collaboration between the utility provider and the DPW or tree service.A town-wide announcement urged residents to use care around downed utility lines and to always presume that the power lines are live.
Carbon monoxide resulting from the use of fireplaces, grills, candles, and generators can be especially dangerous if alarm systems are without power.
Warming Stations and Internet Access on Friday
The Multipurpose Room at Town Hall will be open from 8 am to 4 pm on Friday, March 9 to allow residents without heat or electricity to get warm and charge their electronics. The Bedford Free Public Library will be open during its regular hours on Friday; residents are encouraged to take advantage of its heat, light, power, and Internet connection.
