The biggest threat from the soon-to-arrive storm that will visit New England Thursday night and Friday is power outages. Wind gusts are expected to reach tropical storm levels.
Eversource says on its Twitter site, “We’re ready to respond to power outages as heavy rain and strong winds impact the state tonight and tomorrow. If you experience flooding that affects natural gas equipment, it’s important that we hear from you. Please keep our contacts close and be sure to call us.”
Trees are the top cause of power outages during storms. Eversource says its crews have been proactively patrolling their electric system and trimming tree branches across the state before the rain and windy weather arrive.
Eversource also advises people to assemble or replenish a storm kit. Even after this storm, more are on the way this winter. In addition to having extra warm blankets and clothing, the kits should include:
1. Water
2. Non-perishable food
3. Tool kit
4. First aid and medications
5. Radio
6. Batteries
7. Flashlight
8. Charger
9. Pen and Notebook
Eversource has extra crews in the area to deal with outages.
