Compiled by The Bedford Citizen
The Bedford Minuteman Company Memorial Scholarship Trust is pleased to announce its first annual award to the Bedford School Department, with a grant of $3,000. The Trust is pleased that this year’s recipient will be students in grades 3-5 at the Job Lane School where multiple sets of books about US history will be available to augment classroom study.
The grant will focus attention on Bedford’s youth and their studies of our shared colonial and historical heritage. The School Department will evaluate the needs of the schools each year and determine where the Trust’s grant will be most appropriate. The Trust looks forward to a long partnership with the Bedford schools to provide historical education in all four Bedford schools over time.

About the Scholarship Trust and Luminary Sales
The Bedford Minuteman Company’s Scholarship Trust was formed in 1986 to honor those Bedford Minutemen who had died. During the past 32 years, the Trust has awarded more than 50 scholarships to graduating seniors in Bedford. The annual sale of luminaries at holiday time provides the sole funding for the Scholarship Trust.
Sales of the luminary kits are primarily accomplished through word-of-mouth from annual supporters and a number of individuals who want to expand the magical effect of the luminaries around their homes and in their neighborhoods on Christmas Eve. Distribution to the community, in general, has been provided through the generous support and collaboration of Chip-in Farm and Suzanne & Company, both have been instrumental in helping with sales for a number of years.
The illumination of The Great Road through Bedford’s Historic District and Willson Park is accomplished through the efforts of members of the Bedford Minuteman Company’s Board of Directors and supportive friends.
