A letter from Ginni Spencer
This week (September 11-17) is National Arts in Education Week. This week was designated in 2010 by Congress and encourages us to remember and recognize the transformative power of the arts in education.
Creativity in all subject areas is fostered by a vibrant arts program. In Bedford we are fortunate to have a strong arts program that our whole community enjoys including, but not limited to, theatre presentations and the annual Spring Art Show. These are wonderful opportunities for students to express themselves and discover talents and interests that may be a part of their lives forever.
The Every Student Succeeds Act ushers in a new chapter of American educational policy with many arts-friendly provisions. I am glad to see the arts being sustained in this meaningful way in the public school curriculum.
Special thanks to our many fine arts teachers in the Bedford school system.
Ginni Spencer
