In collaboration with Council on Aging staff members Alissa Anderson and Alison Cservenschi, members of the Bedford Garden Club — Joan Waite, Bridget Clayton, and Christine McGovern, planted a pair of whiskey barrels with geraniums, petunias and periwinkle along with an Earth Box, filled with lettuce, tomatoes and oregano.
The Bedford Garden Club has maintained public gardens and planters around town for many years under the leadership of its garden coordinators Jan Burnes and Joan Waite.
Team leaders for individual gardens include Christine McGovern, Judy Storer, Cheryl Miksenas, Joan-Marie Freni, Barbara Kupfrian, Claire Austin-White, Kay Hamilton, Bridget Clayton, Claire Higson, Jan Burnes, Judy Brunner, Bette Salzer, Sara Freeman, Breena Daniell-Gordon, Bob and Mary Ellen Dunstan and Jo Champney.
The Club plants and maintains gardens at the following intersections: Brooksbie Road and Great Road; Burlington Road and Old Billerica Road; North Road and Chelmsford Road; Page Road and Old Billerica Road; Springs Road and Hillside Avenue; Springs Road and Pine Hill Road; Loomis Street and Webeber Avenue; Burlington Road and Hume Road; Shawsheen Road and Page Road, South Road and Railroad Avenue; Davis Road and Concord Road.
In addition, the club oversees plantings at the Bedford Free Public Library, Old Town Hall, the daylily garden on Shawsheen Road, and the Dutton Herb Garden at the Job Lane House.
