As Bedford’s Minuteman Company begins to celebrate its 50th anniversary, the membership has selected Roy Kring to lead the troop for the coming year. Kring’s installation will take place in the Great Room at Bedford’s Old Town Hall, at 7:30 pm on Friday, September 26, during the party to celebrate Citizen of the Year Alma Pomponi.

About Captain Kring

Kring’s Bedford connection began in 1638 when his ninth-great-grandfather, Thomas Dudley, paddled up the Concord River and staked out his royal land grant at Two Brothers Rocks. A few hundred years later, Kring and his family landed in Bedford when his wife (and fellow Bedford Minuteman) Shirley was assigned as chief medical officer to Hanscom Air Force Base Clinic.

The couple joined First Church where John Filios caught Kring’s attention with stories of the Bedford Minuteman Company. A colonial snare drum lesson with Bryan Nash in the Job Lane Barn was the start of a fun and revolutionary experience.

Kring has been honored to cap the Liberty Pole three times and has served in all the [Minuteman Company] staff positions. Most of all he enjoys keeping the beat as the Minuteman Company represents the great town of Bedford.

Kring is a retired Air Force physician and currently is one of the Emergency Physicians at Emerson Hospital in Concord. He loves local history, running in the Danny Oates 5K on Bedford Day, and mustering with his fellow minutemen. But Kring’s proudest accomplishments are his twin sons Ryan and Randy, Bedford High School grads, who will be graduating from Tufts Medical School in 2015.

Kring hopes to live up to the fine leadership of the past Captains of the Company over the previous 50 years. He will work to keep our town proud of its Minuteman Company and the Bedford Flag.
