On a beautiful, crisp November 11th afternoon, Bedford took time to honor its veterans at a ceremony held at Veterans Memorial Park on the Great Road.
The Patriotic Holiday Committee organized the town’s Veterans Day ceremony to honor America’s 22 million living veterans, veterans who are no longer with us, and members of the military currently serving in the U.S. and abroad.
This year’s participants included a Bedford Police and Firefighters Honor Guard, the BHS Marching Band, Bedford High’s JR-ROTC cadets, the Bedford Minutemen, Bedford scouts, joined by Bedford and Hanscom dignitaries, veterans groups and the general public.
Keynote speakers Bill Moonan, chair of the Bedford Selectmen and State Representative Ken Gordon, along with Bedford’s American Legion and VFW Post Commanders spoke about the contributions made by our veterans and the need to remember and honor their sacrifices by a grateful nation.
A highlight of the ceremony was the opportunity for people attending to remember a special person or loved one who served or who is now serving in the US military and tosay a few words about that veteran. Flags were placed on a Veterans Memorial Wreath to honor each veteran named.
American Legion Post 221 hosteda luncheon immediately following the ceremony.
