One of the most frequently requested resources at the Bedford Free Public Library is the collection of Bedford High School Yearbooks. Library Director Richard Callaghan reported to the Trustees at their October 8 meeting that, thanks to assistance from the Boston Public Library, the entire collection from1958 to date has been digitized and is now searchable online.

The Library owned all the yearbooks with the exception of five years, which the High School provided to complete the digitization. To access the yearbooks, go to the Library web site: www.bedfordlibrary.net and click on Internet Archive.  The Yearbooks provide a fascinating snapshot of Bedford over the years: for instance, the 1958 class dedicated its yearbook to their “beloved sixth grade teacher Mrs. Bessie A. Liljegren,” for whom, incidentally, Liljegren Way, the street leading into the rear of the Library and the High School is named. You can also dip into the Yearbooks via the Library’s Facebook page (don’t forget to “like” the Library!)

What a great resource, especially for those of us who have moved away!
