Annual 5K Turkey Trot to take place on Thanksgiving morning

November 20, 2012

Submitted by The Annual Turkey Trot Organizers

There may be no better way to start Thanksgiving Day, or get ready for the annual Bedford/Concord-Carlisle football game (in Bedford this year), than to participate in Turkey Trot 2012, an easy 5K run or a 2-mile walk to benefit Bedford’s Community Table and Food Pantry.

According to Turkey Trot’s Facebook event page, more than 70 participants have said that they’re coming, and winners in eight divisions will receive Thanksgiving centerpieces donated by Bedford Florist. Prizes will go to the top runners along with some special prizes: oldest and youngest runners; first walker; first pet finisher; family with the most participants; and to the person traveled the farthest for this year’s Turkey Trot.

Registration for runners and walkers begins at 7:30 am on Thursday, November 22, with the race starting around 8 am.  All runners must sign a participation waiver, and runners under age 18 must have signed permission from their parent or legal guardian.

All participants in this year’s event will be required to sign the following waiver form at registration: Medical / Liability waiver: As a participant of the “Turkey Trot 2012”, I stipulate I am in good health and able to participate in this physical activity. I further stipulate I have health insurance in the event I am injured while attending this event and agree to indemnify and hold harmless all volunteers as well as those involved with the Bedford Food Pantry. Please email [email protected] if you would like to have the form emailed to you in advance for completion and save time at registration

Turkey Trot 2011 generated more than $3,000 in contributions to the Bedford Food Pantry, 20% more than in 2010. Fundraisers like this are essential to the Pantry’s continued operation. Donations can be made to the Bedford Community Food Pantry. If you can’t take part in the race, but would like to make a donation please make your check out to Bedford Community Table/Pantry, Inc. and mail it to Turkey Trot, c/o Rich Hamilton, 5 Francis Kelley Road, Bedford MA 01730 Your donation will be included with the race-day proceeds and 100% of your contribution benefits the Bedford Pantry!
