‘Wildest Dreams’ Came True in ‘Style’ at The Rec’s Swiftie Night Out

Submitted by the Bedford Recreation Department

On Friday, May 31, the Bedford Recreation Department hosted a Taylor Swift-themed dance called “Swiftie Night Out.” More than 160 kids (Grades K-6), parents, and caregivers dressed in their favorite Taylor Swift outfits joined the fun at John Glenn Middle School.

The idea was born from hearing many kids in Bedford Recreation programs talk about how much they enjoy Taylor Swift and the folklore that surrounds her music. The event featured a variety of activities, including friendship bracelet making, heart sunglasses decorating, trivia, and a very popular photo booth. DJ Mike Pride was also present, playing Taylor Swift’s most popular hits and keeping kids entertained with fun games and prizes.

Bedford’s Assistant Recreation Director Nikki Taylor said, “The goal of ‘Swiftie Night Out’ was to give kids an opportunity to feel safe and enjoy the company of other Swifties. The best part of the evening was seeing friendships blossom over a common love of Taylor Swift, watching kids accept one another, and the smiles on everyone’s faces throughout the event. In the end, it was about more than Taylor Swift. It was a chance to celebrate community and just have fun!”

Shannon Dillon from Creative Images Boston was present to capture the fun and energy through photos.

The Bedford Rec Department looks forward to hosting more fun events and is thankful for all of the volunteers and staff who made this event possible.
