Just a few paces up The Great Road from the Cultural Festival on the Common, the Friends of the Library will be holding a book sale under the portico and inside the Library building from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Saturday, June 15. This is a chance to score some real bargains in time for the sweet reading days of summer. And at the same time, you can help the Friends clear excess inventory before the Library’s HVAC renovation starts.

Beverley Matthews, speaking for the Friends, told The Citizen that the First Church of Christ, Congregational at 25 The Great Road has offered space to store books while the Library work is going on, but there isn’t a definite plan yet.

Mathews said, “We have not yet learned if we will have to move any books out of our space in the library or if the contractors will cover them up and work around them (or some other scenario).

“We still have full access through the book sale on June 15. After that, depending on what we learn, we may try to move some books to the church, but we will not be collecting donations due to our limited number of volunteers and the difficulty of trying to move large quantities of books (they are heavy!).”

It now looks as if the Friends should be able to start collecting donations in the fall, perhaps around October depending on how the HVAC work goes.

Note: The HVAC construction timetable will be updated at each meeting of the Trustees of the Bedford Free Public Library, which will give the Friends a better picture of when they can begin accepting book donations.
